In Malawi, many children in rural areas suffer from malnutrition and lack access to early childhood education. Yet, early childhood education is crucial for their physical, mental, and social development, and in the long term, it impacts educational and income opportunities as well as the health of their entire community. Our project addresses this very issue: Together with our partner organization NACRO (New Apostolic Church Organization Malawi), we are working to sustainably improve the lives of children and their families in three villages – Mbwatalika, Mchengautuba, and Kazingande. Our focus is on education, nutrition, and community building.
What we want to achieve
With your help, we can create positive change:
- 310 children aged 3 to 5 receive free access to preschool education, daily nutritious meals, and school uniforms. This provides them with a solid foundation for their start in school.
- Fifteen teachers are benefiting from professional development courses that strengthen their skills in promoting reading, mathematics, and addressing special needs. This will sustainably improve the quality of education.
- Two hundred households are being financially strengthened through savings groups and workshops on topics such as financial literacy, marketing, and environmental management. This contributes to the stability and development of the communities.
- Schools are being transformed into safe and child-friendly learning environments: We are renovating classrooms, playgrounds, toilets and kitchens.
How we ensure sustainability
To ensure these successes have a long-term impact, we actively involve the community. Parents, teachers, and members of school committees work together to develop strategies for the centers’ continued operation. These include:
- School gardens that not only provide food but also offer practical learning opportunities.
- Income-generating activities that support the financial independence of schools.
- Parental contributions that ensure long-term operation.
